I watched a pretty interesting Biography Channel story on the history of McDonalds this morning. Did you know that 1 in 8 Americans have worked at a McDonalds? Did you know that "Ronald" McDonald was originally named "Donald" McDonald?
And here is the kicker... some studies have shown that the golden arches are more recognizable around the world than the Christian cross!
One thing is for sure... McDonald's success was based on a clear, unchanging vision of Ray Kroc.

Gotta love this southern pollen! It is so bad that you can see the stuff cake up on your car! I can't imaging what the inside of my nose looks like.
Here's the local scoop:
April 12, 2006
The pollen count is
1,312
What this number means:
The pollen count is the amount of pollen particles measured within the last 24 hours in a cubic meter of air.
0-30 Low - Only people extremely sensitive to these pollens & molds will have symptoms.
31-60 Moderate - Many people sensitive to these pollens & molds will have symptoms.
61-120 High - Most people with any sensitivity to these pollens & molds will have symptoms.
> 120 Extremely High - Almost all people with any sensitivity at all to these pollens & molds will have symptoms. Extremely sensitive people could have severe symptoms.
120 and up???
We're at ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND TWELVE!!!

Wendy had been painting her toes, and sure enough, Abby said: "you painting your toes???." I'm not sure why this is so funny to me, but everytime she shows off her great sense of smell, I get tickled.

It has been a crazy couple of days. Early yesterday morning, Wendy came down with the same stomach virus Abby had a few days earlier. It really wiped her out for the day. It has run its course, but she is moving a little slower than normal. As I'm typing this, the middle school choir students are on their way to Nashville. We decided to give Wendy an extra day to recover, so, Wendy, the kids and I will catch up tomorrow. It feels weird to be here while Chris, Elizabeth and the rest of the crew are on a youth trip. It is really awesome to work with a great team, but it is humbling to realize the show can go on without you. I'm blessed to be a part of a church with such abundant resources. Josh, our student choir guy is leading the trip and I know it is going to be a great one. We'll be in Nashville through Thursday. The choir will sing in a few different churches, and we'll do work projects Monday - Wednesday.I also found out today that my Mom is in the hospital... kinda the same thing Wendy had, but it is taking her a bit longer to get over it. Please pray for her recovery. It will probably be a few before I post again... see ya next week...Oh yeah, one more thing... check out www.northlakestudents.com One of my former students back in Garland put together a web site for my former youth group. I am admittedly a sucker for legends and folklore. For instance, there is pretty much no question in my mind that Big Foot is real. If not, who did the Six Million Dollar Man have the fight with?
Another fascinating legend is the Loch Ness Monster. Well, check out this Loch Ness Monster News! Turns out, that some believe that Loch Ness is actually an elephant.
Here is the theory: "The reason why we see elephants in Loch Ness," asserts Dr. Neil Clark, a paleontologist, "is that circuses used to go along the road to Inverness and have a little rest at the side of the loch, and allow the animals to go and have a little swim around."

Today's funny is brought to you by popcorn... that's right... popcorn.
In recent days, I've started to wonder whether or not my little girl Abby has some kind of super smell sense. As an X-Men fan, I'm starting to wonder if she may have mutant powers. I love popcorn so much that I eat it at least 3-4 times a week as a night time snack. I usually make it right after we put the kids in bed so I don't have to share.(sidenote: just took a sip of my cafe mocha from Panera Bread... wow, that is good) A few weeks back, Abby did the funniest thing. She started calling for us, so Wendy went up stairs to see what was going on. She asked Wendy what we were eating and went on to say that it smelled like popcorn. She has repeated this several times since! For some reason, I find it hilarious that my 2 1/2 year old can smell popcorn from upstairs in her room and call us out on eating it without her.

... my home computer that is! In all these years of being a computer nerd, I've never really been good at backing up my home computer stuff. However, a couple of years ago, Wendy and I started using our digital camera and dropped the old 35mm. I've got at least a couple years worth of family photos saved on my home computer's hard drive.
I've been planning on getting an external hard drive(too many and too much of a pain to use cd's) for several months now... I just kept putting off spending the $75-100 bucks. Well, last week the unthinkable happened... our home computer died! It would not work!!! Thankfully, it turned out to be a different problem rather than the hard drive dying on me.
Our family pics mean too much to take a chance any longer. So, we went out and purchased our very own external hard drive... we're talkin' 160 GIG of backup space. So, are you backing up??? You never know when your hard drive might die. Hmmmm... spiritual things are coming to my mind.

Of course, at this point, you would be asking: "How would you know???" Well I guess it about time to go public with the fact that I've been going to the gym for a couple of months now. Yup... you got that right... muscles galore!!! (Not really!) My goal from the start has been to do more than I've ever done and do it on a regular basis as part of my ongoing lifestyle. I hope to loose a little weight in the process. So far... so good.
In the process, I've learned a few things that surprised and tickled me about gym life:
In no particular order:
1. Dudes don't care about being naked in front of you! What gives???
2. People don't wear hats when they work out. For some reason, this surprised me.
3. There really is such a thing as a gym rat. Gym rats are those people that always seem to be there working out... no matter what time I go.
4. Even LA Fitness smells like a gym. I'm still not used to it!
5. There are a lot of people who don't have a clue what they are doing... I'm not the only one.
6. A lot of guys have still not learned that you don't have to use dirty words to be cool. So far, I've heard 'em all in the locker room.
7. The first 10 minutes of my cardio workout is horrible!!! After that, it's like my body gives up and says: "ok... let's just get it over with"
8. Did I mention the smell?
9. It will cost you an arm and leg to hire a personal trainer... it's like $35 bucks for 30 minutes!!! That doesn't include the start up fee and the length of commitment you have to make.
10. The Jacuzzi feels good.
11. Wear flip flops when you shower... never... ever... let your feet touch the floor.
12. Carrie Underwood's new album is great to work out to... not that I have her on my IPOD or anything...
13. Everyone else in the gym can lift, pull, and squat about a billion more pounds than I can. There is nothing like benching 20 pound dumbbells when the guy next to you is benching 85 pounders!
14. There is this smell I can't get used to.

Call us nuts, bored, weird, etc...We're playing Fantasy American Idol at the youth house. Several of us got together today and had a draft to pick our favorites. We developed a point system that awards you points if your contestant survives the week and does well in the process.
The Scoring System:
Player Advances + 10 points
Wins American Idol + 35 points
1st Runner-up + 20 points
Bottom 3 - 5 points
When a judge says, “The Player to Beat” + 5 points
Top 12 + 5 points (per player)
When a judge says, “That was just awful” - 5 points
When a judge says, “Great song choice” + 5 points
Long story short, it makes the usual "water cooler" talk a little more fun.
I'm currently tied for the lead with 40 points!

TITLE: Finding God at the Mall???
DATE: 1/23/2006 11:07:00 AM
-----
BODY:
Over the weekend, Wendy and I had a night out without the kids and made a trek to the mall. At one point in our visit, I made my way to the very cool Apple store to check out the latest Ipod accessories ($50 to listen to FM radio on my IPOD... way too much for me). After I finished, I decided to sit down on a bench outside of Apple and wait on Wendy.
As I sat there, I began to think about how much the mall represents many things that cause us to get off track with our walk with God. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that the mall is a bad place, but I'm saying that a lot the mall offers can be a distraction to our walk with God. For instance, have you ever been to the mall and realized how uncool you really are? Vanity. Have you ever been to the mall and been bombarded by all the sexual images? Lust. Have you ever been to the mall and spent more than you should have? Greed.
I started wondering where I could find God in the mall. As I looked around, nothing was coming to mind. Then it happened. While Wendy was in another store, I decided to get my rings cleaned at a small Mom and Pop jewelry store. I met Dan.
While he was cleaning my seminary ring, he asked whether or not it was a religious school and whether or not I was a pastor. "Here we go" I thought. "I get to try and explain what a Middle School minister does." He told me about his middle school daughter and how he attended a church near by. We had a conversation about God's love and justice. When finished, I walked away thinking about how God could be found in a little jewelry fix it shop through the kind words of a pleasant little jewelry repair man named Dan. I think God is cool like that. Using the most unexpected people and places to reveal himself.

First, let me start off by thanking my friend, Chris Trent, for allowing me to post on his web site as a guest. This has come as a result of Chris' misguided support of the Dallas Cowboys. This time he got in a little over his head.
I've been a Washington Redskins fan since I was a kid, and the Redskins-Cowboys game has been a bone of contention between Chris and me since we've known each other. It's the greatest rivalry in the NFL in our humble opinion. Earlier this season the 'Skins came back from a 13-point deficit at the end of the fourth quarter and won at Texas Stadium 14-13. The second Redskin-Cowboy game was this past Sunday, and Chris and I placed a little wager on this game. The loser had to allow the winner to be a "guest columnist" on the loser's web site.
If you go to JasonBarmer.COM, you will find that Chris has no article. The reason? The Redskins absolutely demolished the Cowboys. There they were, "America's team", in America's capitol city receiving the most lopsided beating in the 45-year history of the rivalry. It was a beautiful day. Final score... Redskins 35 - Cowboys 7.
I've enjoyed stopping by, and I can't leave without a free plug for JasonBarmer.COM!
Thanks, Chris, for being a great friend... even if you are a Cowboy fan.

This morning when Dillon woke up he made his usual trip to the potty and seeing he was about finished I sat down and asked for my morning hugs. He told me he had to put his new Wookie Flyer down(Star Wars Toy) and then he'd give me my hugs. Upon his return, Wendy turned the corner (not knowing he was about to give me my hugs) and asked for her morning hugs. It was obvious by the look on his face that he knew he was facing a difficult choice... who would get the first hug???
I joked with him and asked him "now what are you going to do?" He was smiling as he looked at both of us and within a few seconds he proclaimed "group hug!". Great moment.
In other news, the Cowboys stunk today!!! Dang Redskins!!! (Thanks Rick Bell for enjoying all of those awful updates you gave me while I was traveling back to Atlanta!!!)
I have a great friendship with a guy by the name of Jason Barmer. He is a huge Redskin fan!!! We actually attended a Cowboy/Redskin game together while in Dallas.
Anyway, prior to today's game, we made a little deal about the outcome of the game. Some would call it a bet, but being Baptist and all, I'll go with the word deal. In the next day or two I'll live up to my end and allow the first guest post on ChrisTrent.NET where Jason will get to have a great time I'm sure.
Yikes!!! What was I thinking???

So, Abby cried again this year when we went to see Santa. Dillon was braver than ever... went right up to him by himself and gave him the low down on what he wanted for Christmas. Abby is simply not going to get anything this year. That'll teach her!
The cool thing about Abby crying each year is that Wendy and I get to take our picture with Santa. Very cool! I miss the guy... or at least the simplicity of when I used to be a kid. (wow... that sounded very blogosophical) (wow, wow - I think I just coined a new word)
We're headed to 'bama this week for the Knight family Christmas party. While there, I'm going to preach at FBC Leroy, Alabama. If there are any Leroyians reading come and visit! Should be fun.
One more unrelated thing... Church Service on Christmas Morning Controversy??? Give me a king size break!!! Fundamentalism and Legalism STINKS!!! Seriously... why does it have to be a right or wrong issue? Why can't it be right for one group without others getting all worked up about it??? ArrrrgggghhhhhHH!!!!!

Wow! What a weekend! DNOW was once again incredible this year. We're all pretty worn out from all the going and doing but it was all worth it. There are a couple of youth ministry events that God always seems to use to do huge things in the lives of students. DNOW is definitely one of those type of events. I'm looking forward to the stories we'll continue to hear about what God has done.
In all of this, I've been reminded of how cool it is to work with the JFBC student staff. They're all so gifted. I'm thankful to be a part of the team.
Today has been a great day of catching up with Wendy and the kids. We went to Chuck E. Cheeses and then played in the back yard for a while. Fun stuff.

Oooop’s... I mean III. Kinda confusing.
So this week the last of the Star Wars movies came out on DVD. It is hard to believe that as a kid I saw the first (fourth) episode in the theater. Equally hard to believe is seeing Dillon have the same amazement I had as he watches the movies. For the record, he is actually pretty good with a light saber.
Yesterday, I spoke at the Hightower FCA and used Episode III Revenge of the Sith as an illustration for the lesson. I showed two clips that featured Chancellor Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker. In both clips, Palpatine is slowly and methodically luring Anakin to the darkside. He tells him all kind of lies and plays on Anakin’s pride and fear.
Science fiction? Yes. Lessons to be learned? You bet ya!
Compare the story found in Star Wars to the the story found in Genesis 3 about how Adam and Eve were first tempted by Satan in the garden and eventually chose to do what God had told them not to do. Satan flat out lied to Eve about how it would be ok for her to eat from the tree and he lied to her about God’s motives. He played on her pride.
The lesson: Satan is crafty and cunning and out to get us. He is real. And don’t forget... we’re responsible for choices.

Tonight we went to our neighborhood Halloween Kick off where we started off the night with pizza. This is our first Halloween in our new neighborhood, and we had a blast. There were kids and families everywhere.
We finished the night by going up to the Trunk or Treat at JF. It was fun to see a lot of the 9th grade students that were in middle school last year. All the HS students did a great job decorating their cars.
We had a fun few days, but we're glad to have a rest from all the going and going and going.

Every evening sky, an invitation To trace the patterned stars
And early in July, a celebration For freedom that is ours
And I notice You In children’s games In those who watch them from the shade
Every drop of sun is full of fun and wonder You are summer
And even when the trees have just surrendered To the harvest time
Forfeiting their leaves in late September And sending us inside
Still I notice You when change begins And I am braced for colder winds
I will offer thanks for what has been and was to come You are autumn
And everything in time and under heaven Finally falls asleep
Wrapped in blankets white, all creation Shivers underneath
And still I notice you When branches crack And in my breath on frosted glass
Even now in death, You open doors for life to enter You are winter
And everything that’s new has bravely surfaced Teaching us to breathe
What was frozen through is newly purposed Turning all things green
So it is with You And how You make me new With every season’s change
And so it will be As You are re-creating me Summer, autumn, winter, spring

Spendid(Girls Weekend), Paintball and Feed the Hungry all in one weekend??? Johnson Ferry’s Middle School ministry had a lot going on. Thankfully we had lot’s of help to make it through. Kelly (our girl’s ministry associate) did a great job leading the Spendid weekend. Chris Conner(our MS associate) led the guy’s paintball outing and got shot up pretty good. And today, I led our Feed the Hungry ministry project. Of course we had great adult leaders at all three events that helped us pull off such a busy weekend.
Feed the Hungry is a mission project we do each year to help those in need of food in the N. Georgia area. We pass out bags with lists of what to bring for several weeks leading up to the collection day. On the day of Feed the Hungry, our church members leave the food at their cars. We then pick it up, sort it, box it, and load it up on the back of the moving truck. Today was awesome! We pretty much filled the back of a 20 foot moving truck up with food! Our middle school students served the Lord well today!
In other, more trivial news, if you are looking for a win, the Cowboy's quarterback is giving them away for free... all you have to do is be tied with less than 10 seconds left and he'll be happy to throw you the ball so you can turn around and kick a field goal to win the game!!! Enough said!

Here is the love of a Mom. We all sit down to dinner. Both kids are a bit out of control. It is mentioned that we may have ice cream after dinner. Our oldest decides he wants it now and can't stop talking about it. Our youngest has pizza all over her face. Dad is zoned out and probably not much help. It is loud. Ice cream is scooped. Mom thinks to make it special even though it undeserved. Sprinkles are added.
Hmmmm? Kinda reminds me of my relationship with God. God also adds undeserved sprinkles. Nice.

Dillon and Abby at Johnson Ferry
We had a wonderful first Christmas in our new home. All things were new this year: new home, new church, first time at home on Christmas day, Abby fully aware of what is inside wrapping paper, and a short trip to get home to both Crestview and Wagarville to see family.
God has truly blessed us with great friends and family.

Well, our lives are settling down a bit. Just in time to leave for a week or so for vacation. It will be great to go to Crestview and Wagarville. It's been a while.
It is really cool to see how much God has blessed us in all of the newness of our new lives. There are too many things to mention, but God continues to blow us away each day.
Wendy, Dillon, and Abby are doing great! Dillon is standing here with me playing with a remote control truck. Abby is going down for the night.
We're awaiting the arrival of our good friends from Texas, the Oliver family. It should be fun.
Have a great week!

A psalm of David. 1 LORD , who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?
2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart
3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,
4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD ,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts,
5 who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things
will never be shaken.

Well, Dillon had his first "show and tell" today at Wee School. It was fun to watch this morning as he made his selection for what toy to take. You would think that he would choose one of those great toys we spent some of our hard earned money on wouldn't you? You'd be wrong. The choice... his Mario parachute man he got in a kid's meal from Wendy's(the fast food restaurant). Apparently it was a big hit at school and the great news is I'm getting him a Happy Meal for Christmas.Seeing him do show and tell made me think back to my days of show and tell. My favorite memory is the day I took my Six Million Dollar Man action figure. It had to be in like kindergarten, but I can still remember that day. What about you? What is your favorite show and tell memory? Click "Make Comments Here" to respond. This should be fun.

Well, this past Sunday Wendy and I announced our plans to move to Marietta, GA at Minister of Middle School Students at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done in ministry. We love the people of Northlake so much and dreaded telling them of our decision. They responded with love and expressed their support for our ministry and calling.
It is a strange feeling.

As I stepped out of my car a few moments ago, I actually felt like I had transported out of the metroplex into the Main street of a small town that doesn’t even have a Wal-Mart. Brick streets, stop signs, storefronts, and not one store that you would find anywhere else… no franchise stores on this street. Of course I know in the back of my mind that the mall is less than a mile away… but still… I’m loving the feeling.
I set out to find a place where I could get out of the office and do some studying. My friend Steve had mentioned this little place numerous times before. Espresso Yourself, 15th Street, old downtown Plano. As I write I’m sipping a nice little mocha cappuccino and I’m about to finish preparing for my sermon tonight. Great stuff and I’m glad to say that places like this still exist.

BODY:
Oh how everyone has an opinion about this issue. Me too. But, more than anything I have questions. I saw the film the Wednesday morning it came out. I left trying to process what I had seen. I think I must be still processing because I'm still not sure what to think.
Yes, I do think it was probably close to what it was like.
Yes, it was overwhelmingly violent.
Yes, I feel I came away with a visual of what it was like.
Questions I'm not sure how to answer:
Am I glad I saw it?
If a believer is radically affected by this movie, what were their thoughts on what the death of Christ was like prior to seeing the movie?
Was the beating Jesus took in the movie overdone? Could anyone have walked away from something like that?
Will people come to know Christ by simply seeing the movie or will it take someone telling them the rest of the story?
Would I want to see it again in its entirety?
If I want to see it again, what does that say about me?
If I don’t, what does that say about me?
If you've seen the film, feel free to chime in… Check out
spiff02, DOCK, and A Guy I Consider a Friend for great thoughts of the subject.

Maybe I'm not as old as I thought. I am loving Switchfoot's CD... "The Beautiful Letdown"
Check out the lyrics to Meant to Live. Good stuff. Good question to ponder... are we living out God's best in our lives?
Meant to Live by Switchfoot
Fumbling his confidence
And wond'ring why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments,
And failed attempts to fly, fly
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Dreaming about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been livin with our eyes half open
Maybe we're bent and broken, broken
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live
We were meant to live

BODY:
Well, I've been a little frustrated that so many have seemingly been ready to crown Mel Gibson the next Billy Graham simply because he has made the most realistic film ever about the most famous guy ever. After watching his interview last night with Diane Sawyer, I'm still not ready to crown him Billy Graham, but I was very impressed with his knowledge and commitment to his faith.
The one thing that stood out to me is when he said that he had been to the pinnacle of secular utopia and found that it left him feeling empty. Wow, was that a Solomon type statement or what? The guy represents what a lot of people would say is true success... rich, powerful, and famous. But, even with all the money, fame, and power, he says that only God can fill that void that we all have inside.
I'm looking forward to seeing whether or not the movie will have an impact on the lives of unbelievers.

TITLE: President George Bush Endorses Finger Nail Biting...
DATE: 2/04/2004 05:37:00 PM
-----
BODY:
Earlier this week Dillon taught me something about our US President. When he gave his state of the union address in January, Dillon saw him on TV and asked who he was. We told him it was President Bush and for some reason that stuck with him. Now every time we see him on TV, Dillon announces "there is President Bush."
Well, here is where the story gets interesting... Dillon has been biting his finger nails for about a month now. We were at the doctor's office and the doctor told him that it was a bad habit. We, of course, have been quoting the doctor with the hopes that he would stop biting his nails... you know heaping guilt on him like all good parents do.
Anyway, the other day Wendy was in the back and Dillon came running up to her with the news of the day. According to Dillon, President Bush said that biting your fingernails was ok.
Hmmmm??? Could this be true??? Is the President really telling our kids that it is ok for kids to bite their finger nails or is this simply a ploy by my 3 1/2 year old to try and convince me to leave him alone about this whole nail biting thing?
Let me know if you have a source for me regarding the reliability of this story.

For the record: Paper beats Rock, Rock beats Scissors, and Scissors beats Paper

Congratulations Jeff and Sherry!!! You are both such great parents that God is blessing you with 3. Heck... he may bless you with more than that if you keep doing such a great job!

I'm going to be teaching a Disciple Now this weekend. It is kinda like a weekend retreat for youth. It's been a while since I've taught one. Before I became a "full time" youth pastor I was invited to teach a lot, but now, I guess people think I have too much to do.
Anyway, pray for the middle school guys I'll be teaching. My prayer is that they'll consider living every area of their lives for God.
In other news, the family is doing great. We're all healthy for the moment. Abby is getting more and more personality everyday. I'm trying to protect my heart around her, but it's not working.

TITLE: Crestview’s Coney Island
DATE: 12/23/2003 08:40:00 PM
-----
BODY:
One of my favorite things about Crestview, Florida is a little hole in the wall place called Coney Island. I’ve been getting hamburgers there since I was a little kid. You used to be able to get three for a dollar. They’ll cost you a bit more now, but they are well worth it. I never make a trip home to Crestview without stopping by.
I had some today.
Here are some things that are special about it…
1 – Chili Sauce! It is unbelievably good. Who knows how they make it? I wish I did. I like it so much that it’s all I get on my burger and hot dogs from there. “Two double cheese burgers, chili sauce only, a hot dog chili sauce only while I wait with a diet coke.
2 – Smell! Crestview’s Coney Island is one of those type places where if you go there, you’ll smell like it for the rest of the day. If you get it to go, your car will smell like it the rest of the day. I consider both of these things a bonus.
3 – People! Coney’s burgers and hot dogs know no age, gender, race, political, or financial boundaries. As you sit there at the bar, you’ll sit there with people of all walks of life. This is a good thing.
4 – Atmosphere! It is located on Main Street and it’s been there ever since I can remember right by the rail road tracks. It is the kind of place that has those hokey signs every where like: “Men do work harder than women… Women do it right the first time.” and “This ain’t Burger King, you get it our way or you don’t get it any dang way at all.”
5 – Grease! No joke… before you leave the front door, the grease from the burger will be seeping through the bag. I might add that the burgers are wrapped in waxed paper.
6 – Simplicity! All you can get there is burgers, hot dogs, soda, and chips. No fries and no chicken. In other words… nothing healthy!
7 – Tradition! I don’t know why, but sharing a Coney Island buger with my wife and little boy is pretty cool to me. I’m not going to cry or anything, but it’s special.
In other words… if you are ever traveling near the town of Crestview, Florida, give me a call and I’ll give you directions to a place where small town tradition is still alive and well. You’ll get a nice burger for your trouble.

Wendy, Abby, and I made our way to Alabama a couple of days ago. Dillon was already here with Grandy and Pappy. Wendy's parents were in Texas for Andy's graduation, so they brought Dillon back to spend a few days on the farm.
Anyway, we've already had a busy couple of days.
Yesterday, Pappy and I went to see Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. WOW!
This mornin' I went crow huntin'. I'm not sure either... but the idea of shootin' somethin' sounded fun and is good for my manhood.
Dillon is loving the country... four wheelin', tractor ridin', hay ridin', rock throwin', deer watchin', wagon pullin', trail walkin', golf cart ridin', and stick playin'.
Abby is lovin' the country too... eatin', sleepin', pottyin', eatin', sleepin', pottyin', eatin', sleepin', pottyin', eatin', sleepin', pottyin', eatin', sleepin', pottyin', and then she smiles.
Monday we will head over to Florida to visit my parents. It should be a lot of fun. My mom hasn't seen Abby yet, so that will be good. While there I will of course be stopping by the wonderful Coney Island for a double cheese burger chili sauce only. Trust me... it is a great burger.
I'll update pictures once back in Texas. Until then, text only.
By the way, you may have noticed the absence of a lot of "g"'s in the stuff you just read. Consider it your free taste of good ole' Alabama livin'.
Merry Christmas!

-----
BODY:
According to the Weekly World News...
"Saddam and Osama Adopt Shaved Ape Baby"
I learned this while standing in line at the grocery store last night.
A few questions:
1) Do you get the feeling that a magazine like this is published out of some college student's dorm room or do you think that they actually have a professional type office some where? What's that place like?
2) What are staff meetings like? "Hey guess what... I have this great scoop on Saddam and Osama adopting a shaved ape baby." "Really, wow, your source really came through for you this time."
3) Are Saddam and Osama really qualified to raise a shaved ape baby? I mean they both have facial hair and they're at war with America. I don't think the shaved ape baby is going to get the proper attention.
Please... someone... tell me that there is not someone out there that actually believes this stuff!!!
Have a great one... and God bless the Ape Baby!

She will go to the doctor on Monday to hopefully find out when we can expect little Abby. There's a good chance she'll be induced on Tuesday or Thursday.

Wendy will go again on Monday morning to the doctor to find out if Abby is ready to make her debut or not.
It is still hard to believe that we are going to have a little girl in our home. I'm already dreading her wedding day. But, on the other hand, I'm looking forward to lots of hugs.

BODY:
Well, maybe not, but last nights game was a blast! I almost went to sleep and missed a great moment where we came from behind to win in overtime. Could we finally be on the road to Cowboy victory? Is a Super Bowl in our near future? Is QCAR the QB to lead us there?
On another(better) note... we are greatly awaiting Abby Nicole to make her way into the world. Wendy is doing great, but is ready to not be pregnant anymore. Dillon is doing great and is looking forward to "holding Abby on the couch all day." Stay tuned for more updates.

Tomorrow marks two years since the 9-11 tragedy. I have found some of the editorial cartoons about 9-11 both interesting and sometimes challenging. Here is a great link to some of the ed cartoons I've found worth while.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

I can feel it... don't get me wrong... it's still hot outside, but, there is something in the air. It is a bit cooler. Excluding the allergies that come with the change of a season, I love the newness of it all. It reminds me of how God gives us fresh starts, new beginnings. Praise the God of new beginnings!!!

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
